2019 GMC Sierra Launches With First Carbon Fiber Pickup Bed

Inside, buyers can get high-tech parts like a multi-color head-up display and camera display in the rearview mirror.
Khodrocar - The 2019 GMC Sierra is finally here, and this new pickup brings a bevy of cutting edge tech to the market, including an industry-first carbon fiber bed as an option arriving later in the model year. Both the standard SLT and more upscale Denali variants will be on sale in the United States this fall.

Offering an optional carbon fiber bed in a pickup truck is a groundbreaking choice for the new Sierra. Rather than the standard steel parts, ticking this option box gets buyers lightweight carbon composite for the bed's inner panels and floor. The new pieces are 62 pounds (28 kilograms) lighter than the standard metal components. Plus, GMC claims that the carbon fiber bed offers "best-in-class dent, scratch and corrosion resistance."

Even with the standard steel bed, the 2019 Sierra loses weight. Like its sibling, the Chevrolet Silverado, the new GMC pickup makes greater use of aluminum, including in the doors, hood, and tailgate. The result is a 360-pound (163 kg) diet over the existing Sierra.

At the back, the trucks come standard with the new MultiPro Tailgate. It features a step and handle for making getting into our out of the bed easier. There's also functionality as a standing workstation on the job site.

New tech should make towing a trailer a whole lot easier, too. The standard equipment includes a new Trailering App that allows an owner to use a smartphone to remotely test the trailer lights, check the electrical diagnostics, and see the trailer's tire pressure.

In addition, the truck offers a hitch guidance system with a rearview camera and automatic electric parking brake, which should simplify the job of getting a trailer into position. Once on the road, options like side view cameras and a trailer-mountable camera provide a better view of what's going on outside the truck's comfy cabin.

The Sierra is rather advanced on the inside, too.  The Denali trim's eight-inch infotainment system comes standard with navigation, and there's a multi-color head-up display as an option for the first time. Buyers can also spec high-tech amenities like a dual-function rearview mirror that can double as the camera display, including the ability to tilt and zoom the view. A full suite of driver safety assists is available, including blind zone alert, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking.

Denali buyers also find luxurious appointments like highly grained leather with contrasting stitching. Open-pore wood and dark aluminum trim provide a high-end, masculine finish.

The Sierra shares its engines with the new Silverado, and buyers can get a 6.2- or 5.3-liter V8 and a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel. The 6.2-liter V8 and the diesel come with a 10-speed automatic. Denali buyers can also get a suspension for adaptive dampers for a smoother ride.
